“One of courage, with audacity, will die. One of courage, but gentle, spares death. From these two kinds of courage arise harm and benefit.”
This passage is from the Tao Te Ching and explains the difference between acts of courage done with love versus without love.
The most courageous act of self love is to deeply examine and assess one’s life. This seems simple yet if I asked you to shine a bright light on your relationships, your health, your financial status, or your spiritual connection, would you be willing to be completely forthright and honest with yourself? Would you look at the results of what you do in your daily routines and feel that you’ve accomplished your goals? Would you collapse at the weight of such a task, feel overwhelmed and paralyzed? Someone just confided in me recently, “To believe that my life could be better than it is feels like pure folly. No one I know is really happy anyway. I’d rather be a realist.” Someone else , who didn’t know much about EFT, abruptly ended a session when the work led her to focus on her boyfriend and their relationship. “Wait a minute weren’t you supposed to be working on my allergies? I don’t want to talk about my boyfriend any more.”
Those attitudes are fine until something else goes wrong that is so massive you can no longer ignore it. In the RM4U course I spend a few minutes reading a long list of physical and emotional ailments that I have assisted my clients with that were a direct or not so direct result of being in a bad romantic relationship. Multiple Sclerosis, depression or addiction, all dysfunctions and diseases are clear indicators of something in your life needing your attention.
Courage is taking one small step (through EFT or some other way) and acting through your fears like the cowardly lion in the Wizard of Oz. The lion insisted that he had no courage but he exhibited it over and over again. Even though he felt that the bottle of courage the wizard gave him was indeed what healed him, he realized that he had it all along.
Instead of succumbing to your supposed incapability or drinking a bottle of liquid courage, use EFT to ease the discomfort of facing what you need to face. You’ll be richly rewarded sans the hangover the next day.
